CONSEQUENCES OF CHRONIC STRESS AND PRЕVENTIVE WAYS TO AVOID IT

Abstract

Chronic stress breaks down the blood-brain barrier and allows inflammatory proteins to enter the brain. At the same time, chronic stress activates the hypothalamic-pituitary and renin-angiotensin systems and increases the secretion of catecholamines, corticosteroids, etc. Long-term high levels of cortisol result in hippocampal constriction. Besides, chronic stress causes damage of the vascular endothelium to cause inflammatory cells to adhere to the vessel wall and increase the blood's ability to coagulate. Negative conditions caused by chronic stress are more common in people who have experienced depression before.
