Linguistic approach to sport journalism

Abstract

One of the main linguistic requirements put forward for a sports journalist is that their speech should be accurate and fluent. This means that a sports journalist must be really professional in his or her work.
Compared to other areas of journalism, the interest in sports journalism is rising dramatically every day. Azerbaijan also occupies a special place among these countries having contributions on this issue. Thus, the comments and articles supporting the development of this direction in the media, as well as the special attention to the training of specialists in sports journalism in higher education institutions is an obvious example.
World experience and related scientific literature show that there is a profound difference in professionalism among qualified sports journalists and other journalists. As the international terminological language, as well as theoretical knowledge related different sports, is very large in scope, it is necessary for journalists to specialize in the direction of sports.
