THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH CONSONANT CLASSIFICATION FOR EFL LEARNERS
##common.pageHeaderLogo.altText## Scientific News of Academy of Physical Education and Sport

Abstract

Learning a foreign language first begins with its vocabulary. Correct pronunciation of sounds and accurate reading of words help learners to know the classification of these sounds, how they can work freely on their own to explain and practice the articulation of (EFL learners) English consonants. However, the theoretical material is necessary for anyone who needs to understand the principles of these sound arrangements in spoken English.

Most of the readers (EFL students) are aware of the importance of linguistics topics, but they do not have enough basic knowledge to understand these topics, especially Phonetics and Phonology. This is an attempt to show phonologically the general classification present in consonants. Often, teachers treat EFL students as if they are worthless, even though they are aware of the presence of the three tags, which have little information in their lectures. Thus, when explaining the consonant sounds present in English, EFL instructors are advised to provide equal information on these labels through various classroom activities. If a foreign language learner follows these etiquettes, of course, he will have no difficulty in reading and pronouncing words.
