USING OF GERUND IN ENGLISH AND WAYS OF TRANSLATING IT INTO AZERBAIJANI

Abstract

In English, it is possible to express any idea in a sentence in different forms. Therefore, it is very important to be familiar with the  grammatical system of the language and to be able to choose the appropriate form. In this case the need of using the gerund appears. Thus, the sentences containing gerund are translated into our language in the form of a simple sentence, and this allows us to use our thoughts in a concise, convenient and very clear form during the conversation.

In general, the gerund is one of the most interesting, important and frequently used topic in English grammar. As this language unit does not have a complete counterpart in the grammar of the Azerbaijani language, it has always been a problematic issue for language learners in the teaching of this language. The solutions to this issue should be investigated and clarified by language teachers, and the obtained effective methods should be applied in the teaching process.

In the article, different ways of using gerund and translating it to the Azerbaijani language are studied. For this purpose, scientific literatures have been referred to and the results of the research have been clearly summarized. Based on various examples, the use of gerund, its meaning, and ways of transferring this meaning to the Azerbaijani language have been explained in detail.

In the article, the negative form of the gerund is also studied, translated and explained with examples.

The information given in the article will play a very important role during the teaching and learning process of gerund.
