Comparison of high-level athletes with the characteristics of non-athletes, the identification of four characteristics typical for strong athletes, determines the mental quality and the area of psychological training, and at the same time mental qualities that determine success in high-performance sports. It is noted that high-level swimmers have a high intellectual level, their distinctive features are closely related to the intellectual performance of the athlete. In the working model of the effectiveness of coaching, various factors related to the personality, professionalism and behavioral characteristics of the coach predetermine his behavior and influence on the athlete. It provides information that helps broaden the understanding of quality that precedes an athlete's mental fitness.
